Detectives investigating two recent shootings in north Dublin suspect the victims may know each other.

At around 9.20pm last night, a man was shot at Moatview Avenue in Coolock just days after another man was gunned down in a nearby housing estate.

He was shot in the lower leg in a housing estate just off the Priorswood Road in Coolock.

He was treated him at the scene before he was brought to Beaumont Hospital where doctors assessed his injury as non-life threatening.

It is the second gun attack to affect the area in the past week.

Last Thursday a 22-year-old man was shot in the arm and leg at nearby Ferrycarrig Park. Investigations are still at an early stage with no arrests to date.

But Gardai are looking at the possibility that both shootings are linked.

It is understood the victims are from the same area and detectives believe they may know each other.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
