A man in his 30s is still being questioned by Gardai in Sligo following a gun siege at house outside the town yesterday. 

Shots were fired at Gardai from the man's family home before armed officers returned fire.

Special units attended the scene including trained negotiators.

It ended peacefully and without injury, short of 13 hours from when the guards were called.

The man remains in custody this afternoon.
