Gardai say an Australian man thought to be missing since last week has been found safe and well.

Officers in Athlone appealed for information after William Tyquin (85) went off the radar.

Mr. Tyquin had arrived in Ireland on July 4th.

He had hired a car with the intention of travelling around Ireland, but concerns about his whereabouts were expressed last Tuesday.

Gardai have thanked the public for their help in the matter.
