Gardaí searching for a missing man in Donegal are appealing for information on reports he was seen entering the sea at the Isle of Doagh on Saturday afternoon.
The man in his early 70s is now missing, presumed dead and the Coast Guard is carrying out searches along the Donegal coast.
Gardaí are appealing to fishermen working in the area, landowners on the coast and anyone currently in the area to be aware of the investigation and to report anything they see to emergency services.
Investigators noted that the callout is for information only and is “not a call for members of the public to begin searching for this man”.
The Garda appeal centres around a man who was seen entering the sea at Lagacurry Beach at the Isle of Doagh, a peninsula in Inisowen in northern Donegal, on Saturday afternoon.
He is described as being 6’2” tall. When last seen, he was wearing a bottle green heavy jumper, a blue collared shirt, navy cords and black boots.
Gardaí say they are searching for a missing man who matches the description.
Their appeal is being issued in conjunction with the missing man’s family “on the presumption that he is missing, presumed deceased”.
Investigators are warning people near the coast to be aware of potential adverse weather conditions and take care in the water.
