Gardai have issued advice for those driving this evening, with heavy rain and hail showers forecast.

They say motorists should slow down and allow extra distance from the vehicle in front as slippery roads increase stopping distance.

They also advise taking special care behind trucks or buses which generate a large amount of spray.

Pedestrians, cyclistrs and motorcyclists are advised to wear bright clothing with reflective bands.

And where there's no footpath, pedestrians should walk on the right hand side of the road, facing oncoming traffic.
