An elderly man has been found dead after an assault at a home in Balbriggan, County Dublin. 

At 11.20pm yesterday, Gardaí and emergency services were called out to a property in Tobersool where a man in his 70s was found unresponsive. 

He was declared dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination has been arranged. 

A man in his 20s has since been arrested and is currently detained at a Garda Station in Dublin. 

The scene at the property in Tobersool has been preserved ahead of an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. 

A Senior Investigation Officer has been appointed to handle the case from Balbriggan Garda Station. 

Gardaí are keen to talk to any witnesses - particularly those who have video footage - and Balbriggan Garda Station can be contacted on 016664500.
