Gardaí have appealed for the public to independently check information shared with them via social media or messaging apps.
According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, there has been a “significant amount of misinformation” spread around an alleged assault they are currently investigating.

Shortly after midnight on November 1st, Gardaí received a report of an alleged assault at a location in Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon.
The statement advised that the investigation does not involve anybody seeking asylum in Ireland.
The Gardaí have also advised that those involved in the investigation are defined as children under the Children Act, 2001.
The comments to the Garda appeal have been turned off on social media as the investigations in this case are ongoing.
