Gardaí are looking to speak to a man who entered a shop in Limerick city with his hand in a makeshift bandage on Tuesday.
It follows the discovery of a woman's body at a house on Dock Road in the city yesterday afternoon.
The woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood she had been stabbed.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified with plans for a post-mortem examination.
Limerick reporter David Raleigh told Newstalk Breakfast Gardaí are looking to speak with one specific person.
"Gardaí were looking to trace a man seen entering a shop in Limerick city with bandaged hand, before he washed his hands in this shop," he said.
"This woman is from Romania, I'm told, she was stabbed to death in a flat on Dock Road near this shop.
"Gardaí have interviewed staff at this shop and removed a number of items from the premises.
"This man was seen entering the shop with his hands wrapped in - what I'm told is - a makeshift bandage before he washed his hands [and] left the premises again.
"Gardaí were anxious to speak to this man in order to be able to rule him in or out of their enquiries".
Gardaí are appealing to any person who has information that can assist with this investigation to contact them.
They are appealing to anyone who has camera footage from the Dock Road and O'Curry Street areas of Limerick city from 1:00pm to 2:00pm to contact them.
