Around €3,000 worth of cannabis vaping products have been seized by Gardaí in County Donegal.
The vapes and oil products were seized during searches in the Bundoran and Donegal Town areas last Thursday.
They were carried out in the wake of a ‘medical incident’ that saw a member of the public falling ill.
In all 66 vapes and two bottle of oil containing suspected cannabinoids THC, HHC and HHCP were seized.
THC is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis and is illegal in Ireland.
HHC is a man-made version of THC that is currently available legally in many high street shops.
HHCP is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid derivative that is stronger than HHC and is also technically legal in Ireland.
THE HSE has warned of emerging information from Irish hospitals “highlighted two case studies of regular cannabis smokers who experienced psychotic episodes as a possible result of vaping HHC”.
While HHC and HHCP are not controlled substances, the Health Minister recently told the Dáil that anyone who sells a HHC vape is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Act 2010 if “one would assume it is for human consumption”.
Gardaí believe the seized vaping products have a street value of €3,080.
The seized items have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for testing.
Investigators are appealing to anyone with information on the sale of the vaping products in the Donegal area to contact Ballyshannon Garda station.
