Gardaí have seized a rifle in Finglas, west Dublin, overnight. 

Officers found the firearm shortly after 10.30pm yesterday evening in the Dunsink Lane area of Finglas.

The searches were carried out after Gardaí observed suspicious activity in the area – and the rifle was found hidden behind shrubs and bushes.

It was disabled by Gardaí and will be sent to the Garda Ballistics Unit for further analysis. 

Blanchardstown Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty commended Gardaí for “helping to ensure another dangerous firearm is off our streets”. 

“This seizure was the result of ongoing proactive patrols in the DMR West where Gardaí continue to maintain a presence,” he said. 

“[It] is yet another example of the tireless work conducted by Gardaí patrolling our streets every day to help keep people safe.” 

Investigations are ongoing.
