A golf club believed to be used in an assault that claimed the life of a young man in north Dublin is being tested as part of the investigation into his death.

The man (21) died in hospital after being found at Fassaugh Avenue in Cabra this morning and two men have since been arrested.

Gardai have yet to officially launch a murder investigation but they are expected to do so once the results of a post mortem are made available.

Meanwhile a golf club recovered from the scene has also been taken away for tests.

The man's body was found on Fassaugh Avenue

Not long after 7am the victim was found unconscious outside a shop at Fassaugh Avenue near the Cabra House Pub.

A number of people gave him first aid at the scene. He was also at a party in the area before he was found on the street, and Garda Superintendent David Taylor says they are eager to speak to a certain taxi driver.

A man (23) was arrested at the scene a few hours after the man died, and another man (25) was arrested in Finglas at midday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
