Thousands of people will be on the move later as the Bank Holiday weekend mass exodus gets underway.
Gardaí say they will be out in force on our roads clamping down on speeding, drink and drug driving and other motoring offences.
109 people have been killed on the country’s roads so far this year – that’s one more person then this time last year.
Those embarking on long drives this bank holiday weekend are also being urged to make sure extra loads are properly secured.
The AA expects 1,500 breakdown call outs over the break.
Spokesperson Miriam O’Neill says while the vast majority of drivers are cautious a small few who are reckless make the roads more dangerous for everyone.
