A landscape gardener claiming to be a "creative consultant" for U2 is facing jail for attacking a Dublin Airport worker.
Mark McCabe, 58, who lives in London but supplied an address at Kilcross Square, Sandyford, Dublin 18, admitted to the offence today.
Mr McCabe said he was in Dublin for a project with the singer Gavin Friday and was due to fly home on November 9th.
The court heard he was "stressed" and got into a row with a worker at Dublin Airport at Gate 106.
The judge heard staff were scanning boarding passes when Mr McCabe scanned his own without being invited to do so and was asked why by a worker.
It was claimed he replied: “Okay, I made a mistake; what are you going to do about it?” - and demanded to speak to a manager.
Assault
Mr McCabe was told to wait, calm down and take a seat or he'd be banned from boarding the flight for his disruptive behaviour.
He punched the officer, knocking him unconscious.
The worker suffered soft tissue injuries, was taken to hospital by ambulance and took a week off work on medical advice.
The accused had not initially entered a guilty plea but admitted to the offence in court today.
His solicitor said his client, who is "between projects at the moment," was ashamed, appalled and genuinely remorseful.
The judge adjourned sentencing until September 27th, saying it was a chance to offer compensation and “to convince me why I shouldn't send him to jail.”
