A 72 year old man who'd repeatedly raped his daughter walked free from court when most of the sentence was suspended. 

Fiona Doyle said she was devastated after the sentencing of Patrick O'Brien.

Enda Kenny said he hoped the Court of Criminal Appeal would deal with the case urgently and he praised what he said was Fiona Doyle's courage in going public.

A Dublin businessman who engaged in a €1.6 million tax scam on garlic has had his 6 year jail sentence overturned on appeal.

The court has ruled that the penalty fimposed on Paul Begley of fruit and vegetable importers Begley Brothers Ltd in Blanchardstown, was excessive.

He's been remanded in custody until February 4th when the 3 judge court will consider what is an appropriate sentence for him to serve.

A new report says St Patrick's Institution for young offenders in Dublin is being run in an efficient, fair, safe and humanitarian way.

The findings of the Visiting Committee are in stark contrast to the Inspector of Prisons report published in October which found a bullying, fearful, degrading and intimidatory culture.

The Visiting Committee's report details of which were revealed today does raise concerns over staffing levels in St Patrick's and the restrictions on certain prisoners.

Irish fashion retailer Pamela Scott has confirmed that 12 of its 24 stores have gone into examinership.

The shops affected include the chain's flagship store on Grafton Street, as well as stores in Limerick, Tralee, Carlow, Drogheda, Arklow, Sligo and Cork. 

137 people are employed at the stores, which trade under the company name Arzac.

The company says staff will be paid as normal, stores will remain open and gift vouchers and credit notes will be honoured in full.

Barak Obama's Irish relative says he is confident of another Presidential visit to Ireland. 

Its being reported that behind the scenes discussions are underway to arrange for Mr. Obama to attend one of a number of events being held this year to mark the 50th anniversary of JFK's Irish tour. 

Members of the Kennedy clan are expected here to oversee the official opening of a new JFK visitor centre during the summer around the same time President Obama is due in Co. Fermanagh for the G8 summit. 

His cousin, 8 times removed, Henry Healy attended yesterday's inauguration and ball told the Right Hook he knows the President and Mrs. Obama would like to come back.
