The incoming Government must publish the details of 'backroom deals', Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon has said.

This afternoon, a deal was reached between Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Regional Independents to form a Government next week.

Under the framework, the Regional Independent group will get two super junior ministers.

On The Hard Shoulder, Social Democrats TD for Dublin Central Gary Gannon called for the incoming Government to publish details of negotiations between the parties and the Independent TDs.

"These backroom deals with Independent TDS - they should be published surely," Deputy Gannon said.

"These deals are going to be paid for out of the public purse.

"When the Programme for Government is released, you would have an expectation that [the negotiation details] were also made public because at the end of the day, all of us are going to be paying for it."

Housing

Deputy Gannon also called on the incoming Government to address the issue of housing.

"We have a housing catastrophe in this country," he said.

"If the Government of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Independents wish to take on a transformational role with that well then I wish them well and I won’t just be opposing - I would like to support.

"If it’s a continuation of the same-old same-old well then it’s the job of us in opposition to not only oppose but to demonstrate that given time we can replace them in the next Government."

Deputy Gannon also highlighted the disability sector and healthcare as important issues for the incoming Government.

"The crises of this State in disability support services and in health - they're profound," he said.

Following today's talks, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin will become Taoiseach next Wednesday and will rotate the position with Fine Gael leader Simon Harris.
