Residential gas prices are set to rise again from next month by 8.5%.

The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has approved the request by Bord Gais Energy.

The CER says that the increase relates mostly to the decrease in value of the Euro against Sterling as well as the increase in distribution charges.

The increase will apply to all residential gas customers.

The new tarriff will take effect from October 1st.

Bord Gais Energy made a submission to the CER back in July for an increase of 7.54%.

But the CER says in the intervening period the price of gas has increased in Euro terms.

As a result of these changes the CER says it will allow an increase of 8.50% in tariffs.
