Tens of thousands of Palestinian demonstrators have gathered in Gaza to mark the first anniversary of a major protest campaign.
Earlier, officials said a Palestinian man has been shot dead by Israeli troops near the Gaza Strip's perimeter fence with Israel.
Mohammed Saad, aged 21, died after being injured at a protest camp near to the barrier.
It came just hours before demonstrators began their huge rally to mark a year since a series of protests that turned deadly.
Local media reports that tens of thousands of people have gathered in Gaza, with Haaretz citing an Israel Defence Forces estimate of 30,000 people.
During the 'Great March of Return' last year, major demonstrations were held by Palestinian refugees demanding to be allowed return to their homes.
There were violent clashes between demonstrators and Israeli troops during the main six-week campaign and beyond.
Between 30th March and 31st December 2018, UN figures estimate that 183 demonstrators in Gaza were shot dead by Israeli security forces.
Thousands of others injured.
The figures suggest that four Israeli troops were injured by stones or explosives during the same time period.
On social media today, the Israel Defence Forces claimed some Hamas supporters said on social media that they will attend protests "laden with explosives".
Last night, the IDF tweeted:
Explosives were hurled tonight during a violent Hamas riot. We responded by attacking a Hamas military post in Gaza. Hamas must be held accountable for their violence.#StopHamas
