Independent candidate Gerry ‘the Monk’ Hutch has lost his bid for election.

You can keep up to date with all the General Election results throughout the weekend through Newstalk’s live blog and video stream.

Mr Hutch was up against Labour Senator Marie Sherlock in a battle for the final seat.

He was up 120 votes ahead of the redistribution of Paschal Donohoe’s surplus, but it was Senator Sherlock who reaped the benefits, taking more than 1,000 votes.

When asked if he would run for Government again, Mr Hutch reportedly started physically running away from the Count Centre.

Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch has historically been associated with organised crime within his family, but denies his involvement.

He was was acquitted last year of the murder of David Byrne in the Regency hotel attack.

Mr Hutch was recently arrested by police in Spain investigating money laundering, and has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Upon his return to Ireland, Mr Hutch told the media he was not worried about the case impacting on his ability to serve the people.
