Gerry "The Monk" Hutch has officially registered as a candidate to run in the General Election.

He will contest for a seat in the Dublin Central constituency, as an Independent, against the likes of Mary Lou McDonald, Paschal Donohoe and Gary Gannon.

Mr Hutch lodged his application for candidacy this afternoon, according to the Irish Independent.

The Monk had recently been arrested by police in Spain investigating money laundering, and was released on bail while the investigation continues.
