Polling stations are now open around the country for today’s General Election.
Voters do not need their polling card to cast a ballot but they must bring a valid form of ID to the polling station.
The polls will remain open until 10pm tonight.
Electoral Commission Chief Executive Art O'Leary had this advice for first time voters.
“Bring your passport, your driving licence or a student card - some form of ID,” he said.
“Then when you get your ballot paper, start with [the number] one and work your way down as far through the ballot paper as you would like.
“Don’t write anything else on the ballot paper - all we want to see are numbers.”

Mr O'Leary said not to worry if you make a mistake or change our mind.
“If when you’re voting, you make a mistake on your ballot paper, then you can just bring it back to the person who gave you the ballot paper, say you’ve made a mistake, they’ll destroy it and you’ll be given a fresh ballot paper,” he said.
“There is no shame in this, don’t be embarrassed; it is much more important that you vote properly.”
Voters are also reminded that they are not allowed to take pictures when they are in their polling station.
