A general election will be held in 2024, a Government spokesperson has said.

After a lengthy meeting this evening, the three party leaders have agreed the general election will take place in 2024.

Taoiseach Simon Harris had already said the general election will happen before Christmas - but he's adamant the Government still has work to do.

The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Green Party leader have agreed the passage of the Finance Bill is the priority for the Government.

The committee stage of the Bill will commence on the 5th of November.

Speculated dates for the election are November 22nd or 29th.

This general election news comes after Taoiseach Simon Harris confirmed the three Government parties won't take part in a transfer pact at the election earlier today.

Mr Harris said the three Government parties will stand on their individual achievements.

The Taoiseach also said he doesn't feel the Green Party's earlier push for a November date was 'going behind his back'.
