With around 80 TDs now elected, questions are being raised about potential Government coalitions.

You can keep up to date with all the General Election results throughout the weekend through Newstalk’s live blog and video stream.

It looks pretty clear that Fianna Fáil will be the largest party with as many as 50 seats - though some races are still too close to call.

Fine Gael and Sinn Féin will be closer to the 40 seat mark.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are expected to come together to form the next Government.

However, they will likely need a new partner – or partners – to make up the numbers.

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan told The Anton Savage Show that a Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael led Government is not guaranteed.

“There’s a real sense of arrogance among Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael at the moment that they’re just going to saunter in and someone is going to make up the numbers,” she said.

“I would be saying very clearly to whoever that is – if they’re going to talk to Labour, the SocDems or Independents – do they honestly think that that Government – that has a legacy of 14 years – are going to deliver on disability issues, are they going to really abolish the carers means test?

“I don’t think so.”

The MEP also threw doubt on Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s ability to deliver on housing and farming trade deals.

Lost support

Sinn Féin are likely to finish in the region of 40 seats, while the Social Democrats and Labour are projected to take ten each.

Former Fianna Fáil TD Conor Lenihan said the two returning Government parties should take these results as a warning.

“Both the parties of Government lost support here,” he said.

“Fine Gael I think – and I’m open to correction – had their worst day ever in electoral terms.

“In percentage terms, Fianna Fáil will have the second worst result percentage wise that they’ve ever had – you have to go back to 2011 for a worse result."

Mr Lenihan said said he would expect both parties to conduct themselves with a certain amount of caution going forward.

Newstalk reporters will be at count centres around Ireland bringing you all the results as they come in.

We will also be running election specials throughout the day, and you can follow all the action on our live blog and on our social channels.
