The genetic parents of twins born through surrogacy have won a landmark legal challenge. The couple argued the genetic mother had a right to be registered on the the birth certificates of the children.
The children in this case were born to a surrogate mother and up to now under Irish law only the woman who gave birth can be registered as the mother.
The genetic parents brought this case for the right to record the biological mother's name on the birth certificates.
In a ruling delivered today the High Court found in favour of the couple ruling that the birth cert can be amended.
The surrogate mother supported her sister and brother-in-law in their application to the Court.
Solicitor Marion Campbell made a brief statement outside court.
