Protestors have gathered outside a 4th of July event in Dublin calling for an end to the US support of the Israeli military.
The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) is calling for an end to the US support of the Israeli military.
Taoiseach Simon Harris is due to attend the event at the Clayton Burlington Hotel in Dublin and Conall Ó Dufaigh of Teachers for Palestine explained why he was protesting.
“To voice not just our concerns but our disgust at what is happening,” he said.
“Simon Harris when he was made Taoiseach spoke openly against the slaughter that was happening in Gaza.
“I think he has to turn those words into actions.”
The IPSC is calling on the US government to cut funding to the Israeli military and end its support of the actions being carried out in Gaza.
Betty Purcell said the dire situation in Palestine is the result of the policies of the Biden administration.
“The genocide is ongoing and US support for it has not stopped,” she said.
“It has been consistent and - as Joe Biden has said - ironclad.”
Israel has strongly denied accusations of genocide and insisted its actions are motivated by self-defence and a desire to rescue hostages still held in captivity by Hamas.
The death toll in Gaza is estimated at 38,000 people.
