Germany is to send senior intelligence officials to Washington to demand answers from the White House over claims of bugging by the US National Security Agency.

Germany and Brazil are drafting a resolution for the UN General Assembly that would demand an end to excessive spying and invasion of privacy.

It's alleged the US National Security Agency bugged phone calls of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and monitored thousands of French phone conversations.
