The Sinn Féin President has again defended his controversial comments that two RUC officers were murdered in 1989 because they were lax about their security.
In a blog post this afternoon, Mr. Adams says he did not intend to cause any hurt or pain to families but that what he said is reflected in the Smithwick Tribunal report.
Gerry Adams comments on Newstalk yesterday have come in for widespread criticism - and were described as 'nauseating' by Justice Minister Alan Shatter.
The Sinn Féin President has written a blog post this afternoon, defending the remarks that the two policemen had a 'laissez faire' attitude towards their security.
He says while it was not his intention to cause any hurt to the families of the two policemen, those who attack him are at odds with what is contained in the Smithwick report.
While he does not withdraw the remarks, he says it is "nonsense to suggest that I was blaming the two RUC officers for their own deaths. Everyone knows the IRA was responsible. That was never in question".
He goes on to quote pieces from the Tribunal that RUC officers were warned they were targets, and attacks the Fianna Fáil leader for what he says was Micheál Martin's outburst and the Justice Minister for what he says were pompous remarks.
