A friend of the 2fm DJ Dave Kavanagh claimed he was defamed in the book but it will now be back on sale tomorrow.

Mr. Kavanagh was with Mr. Ryan on the evening before he died from heart failure most likely caused by cocaine and alcohol.

Defamatory claims

He claimed he was defamed in the autobiography of Melanie Verwoerd but instead of suing for damages he took the unusual step of trying to stop its publication.

But the case is now settled and in a statement read to the court the former Unicef ambassador acknowledges that Dave Kavanagh was a good and loyal friend to Gerry Ryan and that she never intended to suggest that he behaved in any way inappropriately on the day before the death of the broadcaster.

Legal settlement

The book is due back on the shelves of shops tomorrow but it will now come with a clarifications slip inside the cover to reflect the legal settlement today.

Melanie Verwoerd says she is delighted with the outcome while her publisher Sean O’Keeffe of Liberties Press spoke strongly in her defence.
