Minister Catherine Martin has said that no gigs will not be affected by energy-saving measures.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media told Newstalk that she wants to see venues remain open despite pressure from rising costs, that's believed to be impacting ticket sales.

She wouldn't say whether there will be any specific help for the industry in the budget, but Minister Martin is hopeful other measures will have an effect.

"It's a whole-of-society package that will be in the Budget that we hope will help those to attend gigs, and of course the businesses and the venues."

"We're acutely aware of the stresses there are with those extraordinary pressures with the prices."

Basic Income Scheme

The comments come as 2,000 people working in the arts sector were told today they've qualified for a new Basic Income Scheme.

Angela Doran, Chair of the National Campaign for the Arts described the introduction of the scheme as a “game changer” for the industry.

The pilot programme was recommended by the Arts and Culture Recovery Taskforce and theartists taking part get paid €325 a week by the state.

The aim is to provide artists with more financial stability in a sector that can swing from feast to famine.

Speaking at the scheme’s launch in Dublin’s Temple Bar earlier this year, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said:

"This pilot scheme represents a ground-breaking opportunity for us to explore how the role of the artist in Irish society can be protected and nurtured,” he said.

“So we can continue to be inspired by great art for generations to come."
