A girl (6) has spoken of her horror of been savagely mauled by a husky dog belonging to a neighbour in Limerick.

The attack happened last Wednesday and left the child with 17 stitches across her forehead and bite marks along her body.

The family of Abbey Cuddihy said she was lucky not to have been killed.

The dog has since been destroyed and a garda investigation is continuing into the incident.
