Gardaí are carrying out door-to-door enquiries at an apartment complex in Cork after the death of a two-year-old girl this morning.
The child was taken to Cork University Hospital after emergency services were called to an apartment on Boreenamanna Road in Cork City at around 5:20am this morning.
Gardaí said she was found with serious injuries.
She was pronounced dead in hospital this morning.
Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death and an incident room has been set up at Anglesea Street Garda Station.
Investigators are carrying out door to door enquiries in the Elderwood Apartment complex and the surrounding areas.
Gardaí are calling on anyone who was in the area between 4am and 6am today, and who has not already spoken to them, to come forward.
The apartment has been sealed off and a forensic examination will be carried out later on this morning.
A post-mortem will take place this afternoon and Gardaí said the result will determine the course of their investigation.
No arrests have been made.
