The family of a girl who was placed in an induced coma in Kerry University Hospital, feared that she might die unless she was allocated a bed in either Cork or Limerick, to undergo a lifesaving operation.

Today however, Breda Kevane has finally been assigned a bed in Cork where she can undergo a vital procedure on her airways that could potentially save her life.

Yesterday, her brother Paddy Kevane spoke to George Hook and told him of the critical nature of Breda's situation.

He said: ''The issue at the moment is that every hospital is over flowing and she can't get a bed. If she stays in Kerry for another two or three days the most likely outcome is that she'll die.''

At the time, HSE issued the Right Hook with the following statement in relation to the Kevane's story.

'It is inappropriate for us to comment on individual cases.  We would advise the individual who contacted you to speak directly with the patient’s medical team.  We have contacted the two hospitals involved to get an update on the overall ICU situation but we would stress that patients are prioritised on the basis of clinical need'

But today, a solution has been found for Breda Kevane. George Hook read out the update on her case at the top of his show.

''The news is great. Almost as we speak, Breda is being prepared on a stretcher to be transferred by ambulance to Cork for the operation on her airways which will give her a chance of life. It reamins obviously, worrying for the family but we've got over the first hurdle.''
