The weather is set to get good 'everywhere' next week, with warm weather moving up to Ireland from the Azores.

Evelyn Cusack, head of forecasting with Met Éireann, told The Pat Kenny Show what we can expect.

"It is definitely going to improve, initially in the east and south - but it'll get good everywhere next week.

"The sea temperatures are picking up too - getting up to 16 or 17°, which is slightly warmer than average.

"So a bit of an improvement on the way".

'Dry and warm air'

She says while the warm weather is heading our way, it is getting here slowly.

"It's nudging gently towards us rather than cascading up.

"What that does it's sort of just a big block of dry air and warm air.

"All of June we've had the Atlantic westerlies... bringing lovely refreshing bands of rain and keeping our gardens beautifully green.

"That's being nudged a bit more northwards - we're still going to stay in a westerly drift of wind.

"So the Atlantic coasts aren't going to be hot, as such.

"If you're heading out on your holidays now - how should I put this diplomatically - bring a range of clothing.

"But there won't really be too much in the way of rain".

She says once the clouds clear it'll be 'glorious'.

"The sun certainly will breakthrough, and when it does breakthrough: glorious sunshine.

"It is high summer, believe it or not: so when the sun shines on you, it is really hot.

"That's why people are confused - when it's cloudy it's cold and when it's sunny it's hot - it's because the sun is at its strongest.

"Let's not all go mad now when the sun comes out, because unfortunately it's a really dangerous time of year.

"If and when you do get the sun, just don't go mad - and the high burn times are 12pm to about 2pm".
