Elber Twomey lost her husband Con, 16-month-old son Oisin and his unborn sister Elber Marie in an car accident in Devon in July 2012.
They died after a suicidal driver deliberately crossed the carriageway of the road and collided with their car. Elber herself was seriously injured in the crash.
This year has seen Elber campaign publically for changes in policing when it comes to suicidal drivers.
Elber joined Jonathan Healy in studio today to discuss proposed changes to road safety in terms of policing and stated the response she got has been "fantastic".
On new recruits in Templemore, Elber stated: "I wouldn't say I'm responsible for it, but they are, before they are coming out next April, they will have ASIST training done, which is basic suicide awareness training. I hope they will take it a step further and address the whole suicidal driver."
For Elber, it is a difficult time of the year: "I'm going to make an effort this year. I won't put a Christmas tree but I am putting up Christmas candles which is a start. I would be a firm believer of light and hope."
Jonathan finished by asking her if she had a message for people who may be suffering from depression or have suicidal thoughts. Elber replied: "Where there's life, there's hope. Try and look at just today, you can't relive yesterday. Good God, I would love to relive many days gone by. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?"
"You shouldn't worry about tomorrow because who knows what it will have in store for you."
