The Google Ireland website is back up after suffering an outage earlier today.

The search giant was down for several Irish users this afternoon.

A Google spokesperson told Newstalk ‘’we are aware that some users are having difficulties accessing www.google.ie and we are working to fix the problem”.

They went on to apologise to users who experienced issues.

The service appeared to still be accessible on mobile devices.

The firm has offices based in Dublin and employs over 2,000 people here.

It established a new data centre in Ireland last September to run on-line services such as the Google search engine, Gmail and Google Maps.

The on-line company has more than 70 offices in more than 40 countries around the globe.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in September 1998.

Since then the company has grown to more than 30,000 employees worldwide.
