Google is making it easier for people to find items that are hard to describe.

A new multisearch option will allow users to use text and images at the same time when looking for something.

The company says using multisearch in Lens means people can either search one of their screenshots or snap a photo of an item.

Then swipe up and tap "+ Add to your search" button to add text.

They can then ask a question about the object - or refine the search by colour or brand.

Google explains how this works.

"All this is made possible by our latest advancements in artificial intelligence, which is making it easier to understand the world around you in more natural and intuitive ways.

"We're also exploring ways in which this feature might be enhanced by MUM - our latest AI model in search - to improve results for all the questions you could imagine asking."

Newstalk's technology correspondent Jess Kelly told Breakfast it's about more precise results.

"Not only will you be able to put in that you're looking for a particular type of sofa, if you've seen one that you like you'll be able to add in an image with those text-based searches giving you a more precised look.

"Say for example you see a stunning jacket... but you want it in a different colour, you'll be able to take a photograph of the original one that you've seen - plus the colour that you want it in - or you could put in that you want it here in Dublin.

"The idea is to try and give you more precised result based on what exactly it is that you want.

"We've seen different changes to Google Search over a while.

"You may remember last year we were talking about the fact that you can now hum a song into Google.

"The idea is they're trying to make it easier for people to find exactly what they're looking for using different mediums".
