The government will today move to formally ratify the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Treaty.

It follows the failure of a legal challenge by Independent TD Thomas Pringle.

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that the ESM is fully compatible with the Irish Constitution.

It now paves the way for ratification of the Treaty.

The government will today lodge a ratification document with the General-Secretariat of the European Council.
