Doctors have voted in favour of a motion to allow abortions in cases of non-viable foetal abnormalities, at a meeting today of the Irish College of General Practitioners.
However, GPs rejected another motion calling for abortion in cases of rape or incest.
The meeting changed a third motion allowing for abortions when there is a significant risk to the life of the mother, saying that must be supported by medical evidence of that risk.
Spokesperson for the ICGP, Doctor Neil O'Cléirígh, says doctors will engage with the government on the draft abortion legislation.
He says it's an issue doctors feel strongly about, on behalf of their patients.
