A 70-year-old gaming grandmother has won the Google Silver Surfer Award this year.

class="MsoNormal">
Pauline O’Connor from Carbury in Co. Kildare beat off stiff competition to win the award and a brand new Google Chromebook laptop.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Pauline has mastered games on Playstation, Wii and Nintendo DS.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">She
loves to challenge her 10 grandchildren to competitions as well.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Her grandchildren have also taught her how to use the internet and she is an avid Facebook user.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Minister of State at the Department of Communications Fergus O’Dowd presented Pauline with her award at a ceremony held at Google Headquarters in Dublin.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Pauline was
nominated for the award by her daughter Aine who said “Every Sunday when we go for breakfast to her house, time is dedicated to figuring out the new challenge or sharing hints and tips with her grandchildren”.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">“It warms my heart to see my mother connecting with my children through technology” she added.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">
In total 5 awards were handed out at the ceremony including most dedicated IT learner, the hobbies on the net award and the golden IT award.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">The latter award was won by
Catherine Talty from Clounlaheen in West Clare who is 96 years of age.

class="MsoNormal">
