As a satirical response to the financial crisis in Greece, as well as the recession and austerity that has gripped the European Union over the past few years, Greek artist Stefanos has redesigned the Euro banknotes to reflect the hardships faced by everyday European citizens.

Hijacking the notes engravings of bridges and buildings, the artists adds in his own cynical reflections on the current situation in Greece, incorporating arrests, thefts, riots, demonstrations and even suicides.

The project is called Euro Banknotes Bombing, and takes the very visceral commentary right into our pockets. Check out some of the banknotes below:
