Anything other than a two-part pour for Guinness is “sacrilegious,” according to The Hard Shoulder host Kieran Cuddihy.
It comes as a barman in the UK has sparked headlines this week after he claimed the pour with a pause was nothing more than a marketing ploy.
To settle the debate, Kieran decided to visit Peter’s Pub in Dublin today to conduct a serious investigation.
Here, Bartender Enda told him “a straight pour is a definite no-no”.
“The first time I was in the UK drinking, I went into a pub and I said I’d try a pint of Guinness,” he said.
“I was horrified, apart from doing it one go, he just put the beer glass underneath the tap and hit a button – the Guinness slopped into the glass and it was full of bubbles.”
“[A straight pour] will taste nearly as well, but it definitely won’t look as pretty – the presentation isn’t half as good.”

Kieran, who poured a pint of Guinness both ways for testing, said the single pour “doesn’t taste that bad to be honest with you”.
“But there is something to be said for tradition,” he said.
“I’m not having any of this nonsense from the UK that you can do it in one, stick with the two-part pour.”
