There is no sign of the humanitarian crisis improving in South Sudan.
The East African nation is home to over 11 million and half the population are suffering from hunger.
It is sometimes called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis but despite the dire conditions, one million people have arrived in the country.
Most of them have come from neighbouring Sudan, which is in the midst of a brutal civil war.
“I came from Khartoum, I could not stay there because the fighting was very serious,” one woman told Newstalk’s Sarah Madden for The Pat Kenny Show.
“So, I decided to come to South Sudan.
“My parents were killed during the war; my brother, my children and also my sister.
“Some of the family members were burned inside the house - that’s why I ran from Khartoum to South Sudan.”
The Irish Government has provided €12 million in aid to South Sudan.
