Harry Potter is to be made into a TV series with a brand new cast. 

Twelve years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Warners Bros has announced the TV series by streaming service Max will be a “faithful adaptation” of the books. 

“Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World,” HBO & Max Content Chairman Casey Bloys said. 

“In partnership with Warner Bros Television and JK Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”

Author JK Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the series. 

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me,” Ms Rowling said. 

“I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.

No details on writers, casting or locations have yet been announced. 

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1998 and the series has sold more than 600 million copies since then. 

The eight films based on the books grossed €886.69 million and the entire Harry Potter industry is worth an estimated €28.4 billion.
