The family of Clodagh Hawe have held a "very constructive" meeting with the Garda Commissioner this evening.
Clodagh (39) and her sons, Liam (13), Niall (11), and Ryan (6) were killed by their husband and father, Alan Hawe (40), in Virginia, County Cavan in August 2016.
Alan Hawe subsequently took his own life.
During a meeting with Clodagh's mother Mary and sister Jacqueline this evening, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said he would establish a serious case review into the murders.
Clodagh's sister Jacqueline Connolly spoke just after the meeting.
“We have had a very constructive two-and-a-half hour meeting with the Garda Commissioner ,” she said.
“He has agreed to conduct a serious case review headed by his Assistant Commissioner Barry O’Brien.
“We look forward to being appraised of that process in two weeks time.
“Once again we would like to thank the media for the respectful coverage around Clodagh, Liam, Niall and Ryan and for the support we have received from everyone around the country.
“We have been inundated with messages.”
Earlier this year, the family was refused copies of the Garda files from the original investigation into the murders.
They have since been calling for a fresh and full inquiry into the murders - and to be given access to the Garda files.
They also want a review of inheritance law where a spouse benefits financially from domestic killings.
Last week the family met with the Minister for Justice Charles Flanagan.
He arranged for them to meet Garda Commissioner Drew Harris this afternoon, where they'll once again seek access to Garda files and demand a new inquiry into the murders.
