Heavy overnight rain has led to the west Cork town of Clonakilty being flooded for the 3rd time this year.
However quick thinking by the emergency services is thought to have prevented a repeat of the previous devastation for homes and businesses.
The emergency began in Clonakility at around 1am when heavy rain and high tides combined to fill up drains and culverts as water began to build up in the town.
By 2am flood waters reached a depth of 2 feet or more.
Gardaí closed off roads and civil defence and town council staff sandbagged businesses and diverted much of the water by knocking down a wall preventing a repeat of the damage of the June floods.
The heavy overnight rain is causing problems for motorists.
The AA Roadwatch is reporting flooding and excess surface water in parts of Munster, Connaught and Leinster.
