It has been confirmed that two of the country's largest alcoholic and soft drinks distribution companies, Comans Wholesale and Western Beverages Ltd, owned by Heineken are to merge to form a new joint venture company.
Comans Wholesale, which is owned by Geoff and Tom Coman of the Rathgar-based family of publicans, is principally focussed on the Greater Dublin and Leinster area from its distribution Centre in Tallaght.
It already has a close working relationship with Heineken.
Western Wholesale, as its name suggests, mainly operates in the western half of the country from depots in Letterkenny, Galway, Limerick and Cork.
It’s not known if any money has changed hands as a result of the deal, but Comans Wholesale is understood to own the larger share of the new joint venture and Geoff Coman will be its Chief Executive
About 220 employed across both companies – minimal job losses are expected.
