Helen McEntee has said she hopes to remain in her post as Justice Minister after next month’s expected Cabinet reshuffle.
The election of Simon Harris as leader of Fine Gael means there is a vacancy in Cabinet and changes are possible.
Minister Harris was the sole candidate in the running for party leader when nominations closed on Sunday.
He is due to meet the other coalition leaders later this week ahead of being elected Taoiseach by the Dáil on April 9th.
Minister McEntee said she has made it clear to Minister Harris that she wants to keep her position.
"I do want to stay here yes," she said.
"It's been a privilege to be appointed; it would be a privilege to be appointed again.
"Most importantly, I've quite a lot of work that's being done, focusing on keep our streets safe, our communities strong; making sure our policing bill is implemented, making sure we get body cameras on Gardaí in the summer, making sure facial recognition legislation passes.
"But of course that's a decision for any Taoiseach," she added.
If elected, Minister Harris will become the youngest Taoiseach in the history of the State at the age of 37.
