Some €300,000 worth of cannabis has been seized in Co Laois this morning.

Following routine profiling, officers from Revenue Customs Service made the seizure of 15kgs of herbal cannabis after their sniffer dog - Stella - gave a positive reaction to a package at the Portlaoise mail centre.

The package had been described as 'food and spices', and was sent from West Africa to an address in North Dublin.

Investigations are on-going.
