Some 277kgs of herbal cannabis, worth an estimated €5.54m, has been seized at Rosslare Europort in Co Wexford.

The discovery was made as part of routine profiling on Saturday morning.

The drugs were found when an unaccompanied trailer that had arrived into Rosslare from Bilbao, Spain was selected for examination.

It was then searched with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner.

This led to the discovery of the drugs, which were concealed within a load of melons and oranges.

Officers say investigations are ongoing.
