The location of Ireland's newest speed cameras have been revealed.
An Garda Síochána has announced the rollout of two average speed safety cameras on N3 and N5 in Counties Cavan and Mayo.
The cameras on the N3 have been installed between Kilduff and Billis in Cavan.
On the N5, the cameras are between Lislackagh and Cuilmore in Swinford.
A third camera is also set to be located on the N2 in Slane.
It's part of wider plans for the rollout of three average and nine static speed safety cameras which was announced in May.
Static speed cameras are set to be located on the:
- N59 (Galway)
- N25 (Waterford)
- R772 (Wicklow)
- N14 (Donegal)
- N80 (Carlow)
- Dublin (Dolphin’s Barn)
- N17 (Mayo)
- N22 (Cork)
- N69 (Limerick)
Gardaí say as the roll-out continues, they will provide further information as and when new locations move into the testing phase.
Average safety cameras work by monitoring a vehicle's speed over a certain distance, rather than at a single point.
Drivers exceeding the speed limit travelling between the two points are issued with a Fixed Charge Notice.
Gardaí say the sites have been chosen because they meet the criteria "as being high collision sites with numerous road traffic collisions, involving injury, serious injury and fatalities."
Commissioning, testing and validation of the infrastructure and safety cameras will continue for a number of weeks.
An Garda Síochána says it also welcomes the announcement in Budget 2025 of €9m in funding for up to 100 new static safety cameras.
Speed is a significant contributor to road deaths and a cause in 30% of fatal collisions.
