The High Court has dismissed Professor Philip Nolan’s attempt to extend an order preventing his dismissal from his role as the head of Science Foundation Ireland.
He claimed an investigation into allegations of bullying and misconduct was part of an “orchestrated effort” to exit him from the State-funded research agency.
Last month, Professor Nolan received an email notifying him of a decision of the board of Science Foundation Ireland to terminate his employment as Director General of that organisation.
He claimed the decision was made without affording him any fair procedures.
The board of SFI denied Professor Nolan was dismissed for misconduct and claimed he was let go in accordance with the provisions of his contract.
A few weeks ago, he was granted a temporary court order to halt his dismissal and today, the High Court has refused his application to extend that order.
The court found no evidence to suggest the decision was based on its conclusion that Professor Nolan was guilty of misconduct and that that was the reason for his dismissal.
His case will come back before the court again next month.
